Physical Education is aimed at developing pupils’ physical competence and confidence and their ability to use these to perform in a range of activities. It promotes physical skillfulness and development, and an understanding of the body in action.

We believe that physical education is an important contributor to a pupil’s physical and emotional health, wellbeing and development. The PE programme aims to provide a safe, caring environment in which all children, irrespective of their physical ability can learn effectively through physical tasks and activities. The teaching of PE develops physical and creative skills; promote fitness, engender enjoyment and enthusiasm; develop a responsible attitude towards safety; foster cooperation with other people and an appreciation of all movement.

The children face different challenges as individuals and as part of groups and teams. The learning of rules for team games is an important element; pupils are taught these rules at an early age. Good sportsmanship is fundamental in all team sports. Emphasis is put on the inclusion of every pupil.

Football and netball are the key sports and are taught alongside hockey, rounders and athletics.

We work closely with a local youth development organisation which provides football coaching for our pupils.
